Transformers 3 Footage Online...

If, like me, you enjoyed the first Transformers movie as a good old-fashioned popcorn romp, you were no doubt as horrified and appalled as I was when Michael Bay decided to fashion the second movie into a stupid, puerile teenage gag-fest (in both senses of the word).

Thankfully, it appears he has seen sense. The first trailer for Transformers: Dark Of The Moon has arrived and, not wishing to jump the gun here, it already appears to have a far more suitable tone than its predecessor.

The premise is certainly interesting – that during the first moon landing, when the Eagle went "out of contact" on the dark side of the moon, the astronauts were actually on a top secret government mission to investigate a crashed spacecraft. Where will it go from here? The trailer doesn't really give much away. Suffice to say that the overall tone and style seems to be a lot more serious and subtle (well, as subtle as a movie about 30-foot tall robots gets). Which is a good thing.

A little early to tell much yet, but I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. Has Bay truly left the idiocy of the second installment behind? Will we again be subjected to "robo-fart" gags? Only time will tell, I guess. Here's hoping...
